The stairwell vault at The Würzburg Residence spans an area of 18 × 32 meters, without pillars.
Its vault's fresco is the largest in the world and was created from 1750-3 by the Venetian painter Giovanni Battista Tiepolo
and shows paintings of the four continents: Europe, America, Asia and Africa (below).
